FreeWheel’s Monetization Rights Management (MRM) is a complete end-to-end online video syndication ad sales rights and ad management technology which simplifies the task of managing video ad sales, ad serving, and ad sales rights across widely-syndicated distribution channels.
With FreeWheel’s MRM technology in place, content owners can freely syndicate their content, while still keeping control over their advertising relationships, inventory management, and financial rev share accounting.
FreeWheel’s platform enables online video content owners and distributors to actively manage their inventory allocation, revenue accounting and ad serving aspects of video content syndication. It monitors and clarifies revenue share arrangements as well as who has the right to sell ad inventory, across the potentially huge numbers of videos, partnerships and agreements that content owners and distributors may have in place.
Using Freewheel’s MRM, a real-time ad decision is made across all parties in the advertising value chain as to who is allowed to sell an ad and then accounts for value created among them. No matter how many partners are involved or which other ad platforms are involved, FreeWheel eliminates the complexity facing video publishers and content distributors.
The FreeWheel plugin to thePlatform player allows for full utilization of the FreeWheel ad serving platform. Upon loading the FreeWheel plugin into a player, the customer has the ability to monetize video streams with a multitude of ad formats. Ad slots can be taken directly from thePlatform player via cue-points or added dynamically via FreeWheel’s MRM interface.
Inside of the plugin, the FreeWheel AdManager is integrated with thePlatform APIs, thereby making use of access to PDK events to alert it to video starts, pauses, resumes, mute, seek, fullscreen, and other events. Once the AdManager receives the start event, it gains access to metadata regarding the video that is going to be played. With this information it then can request a schedule of ads for the stream that is about to start. Once ads are selected and returned by the FreeWheel AdServer, the plugin registers both the pre-roll and the post-roll with the player in the form of a clipWrapper object that the player will call at the proper time.
Throughout the video play, the AdManager watches for cue-points from thePlatform player and proceeds to play any associated ads that are booked at those times. If an ad is ready to be played, the plugin will pause the underlying content video and play the ad to the user. Upon completion of the ad, the ad is removed from the stage and main video content resumes for the user. At the end of the stream if a clipWrapper object was created for that stream, thePlatform will invoke the object and FreeWheel will play the associated post-roll slot.
Companion ads can also be accommodated via the plugin. To accomplish this, the publisher embeds FreeWheel html tags in the page. Once these tags are on the page, the plugin will automatically handle the finding and playing of any ads associated with them. No extra code from the player/plugin is required.
