Hardworking Plug-ins for RMP

Are you using thePlatform’s Remote Media Processor (RMP) to handle the heavy-lifting tasks around file manipulation, local transcoding, DRM encryption, and file transfers? Then you should know that you can extend the capabilities of our latest RMP with a wide variety of partner plug-ins for additional RMP functions.

The most common type of plug-in is a task plug-in; the other types are transfer, analysis, and notification, all of which support a task type plug-in. An example of an RMP plug-in developed for us is the one for Rhozet’s Carbon Coder encoding engine. It supports functions such as file prefetching (which allows a Rhozet Agent to have its own local copy of the file) and reduction of thumbnail generation times on high-bitrate video files.

RMP plug-ins are easy to install. Simply bundle one or more into a single .NET assembly (DLL) and put the .DLL file into RMP’s plugins folder. When RMP starts up, it initializes the plug-in(s) in the .DLL file and updates the RMP capabilities document accordingly. Once initialization is complete, RMP can process tasks that use the new plug-in’s features.

thePlatform’s systems were designed to be open to the incorporation of third-party software so we can stay flexible as the market moves and our customers’ needs change. The RMP is no exception. We’ve fully documented RMP plug-in development in our online Technical Resource Center to make it easy for vendors to create plug-ins to streamline your workflow.
