Media syndication with mpsConnect
Consumers are seeking more and more control over how, where, and at what cost they consume content. As a result, many content providers that we work with have had to deal with the following:
- Struggling through multiple rounds of negotiations with mobile carriers to secure placement on the mobile decks.
- Identifying and securing business agreements with broadband sites that offer the largest exposure and greatest ROI.
- Spending time manually uploading podcasts to keep consumers informed on updates or changes to media.
Getting syndication agreements and a business plan in place to ensure your consumers can access the content where, when, and how they want it is the challenge. The promise of mpsConnect is a strategy that dramatically simplifies the process by which your content is delivered to its ultimate destination. Our "ingest once, publish anywhere" approach to syndication helps business development and marketing teams to expand into new markets, and removes the effort content production and development teams spend on figuring out how to deliver content once a deal is signed.
How mpsConnect Works
mpsConnect's web services help content providers distribute media to "outlet accounts." Each mpsConnect outlet receives asset packages (media and XML, usually) required to deliver content to its final destination. The provider ingests a single source video file and core metadata through the media publishing system (mps) Ingest Wizard or directly from an internal CMS or asset management package using the mps SDK. mpsConnect takes care of transcoding, partner-specific metadata generation, and final delivery of the asset package to each destination.
mpsConnect for Mobile Carriers
Due to the unforgiving nature of handsets, mobile carriers provide very strict content submission guidelines to ensure the highest quality user experience. Without mpsConnect, a content provider must push a single source video through dramatically different requirements for successful delivery to both Cingular (AT&T) and Sprint, for example. Using our mpsConnect Cingular and Sprint connectors, content provider producers can create a single source video and metadata package and deliver it immediately with one click.
mpsConnect for Broadband Sites
Broadband sites such as MSN Video or YouTube generate millions of page views a day. "Send to a friend" and collaborative capabilities offered by these sites provide even further reach and exposure for your content. But even though both sites require FLV files, the specs for each outlet are very different. Traditionally, meeting these outlets' specifications would require manually creating and managing each file prior to delivering to both destinations using their respective ingest mechanisms. With mpsConnect, the same source file used for the mobile carriers can be used to deliver to broadband sites simultaneously.
mpsConnect and Podcasts
Podcasts are a low-cost, easy-to-implement method of keeping people informed or offering recurring content. The iTunes Podcasts Connector provides your production team a simple, reliable means of creating or updating podcasts on iTunes from within the existing mpsConnect ingest and delivery process.
